1. “Belarusian Bedspreads and Carpets: Anthropology and the Art of Traditional Objects”
Volha Labacheŭskaya / 2021
As the author herself notes, “the book on the anthropology and art of the bedspread is a multilayered text that offers a comprehensive analysis of an object as a cultural phenomenon.” The book is a narrative of the fate of Belarusian folk art as told through bedspreads and carpets created in rural areas from the late 19th to the 20th century. It features numerous photographs of bedspreads from museums across the country, ranging from the National Art Museum to the Ivatsevichy Museum of Traditional Culture, and also includes archival photographs of Belarusians posed against bedspreads from the mid-20th century, collected by the VEHA NGO.
