Gennady Khatskevich
BELARUSIAN CLASSIC
Gennady Khatskevich (03.06.1952 — 25.04.2014) is a person from the very recent past (he died only 5 years ago). He's a really unique artist, first of all because of his deep approach to creativity — the subject of his works is mainly devoted to his own explanation of natural technologies, scientific discoveries. When you look at his drawings, it seems like when you see a mosaic in front of you, the individual elements of which create a complete gestalt of a certain natural phenomenon.
As the Khatskevich explained: "I don’t study the technologies people use, but those technologies that use all of nature. I learn everything that the world gives me, and the more I learn about what I don’t know, my inner world becomes richer, and physically I become better."
"Pictorial language is given for people to say something. As for me — for example, I came from space — what language should I speak if the concept is not depicted? After all, our writing came from the drawn alphabet."
"...I draw how the eyes are arranged in a fly, how the swan's feather is made, how the bionics are built."
"... I try to explain my discoveries and inventions in pictorial language."
