For the Princesses and Unicorns series of paintings, Alexey drew inspiration from three sources:

1. Working with children
2. The animated series Adventure Time
3. The news channel Euronews.

“Put simply,” Alexey explains, “in this series I tried to convey the powerful atmosphere of duality hanging over contemporary society: a sense of decadence and the anxious confusion that follows watching the news, alongside the joy and pleasure of engaging with the best side of our world. What interests me is the very gap between these two borderline realities — a gap that seems to be rapidly turning into an abyss.

The Unicorn, along with the Princess, offers a perfect form for artistic reflection. On the one hand, they embody absolute carefreeness, fairy-tale fantasy, and positivity — all the qualities characteristic of contemporary pop culture. On the other hand, they also carry strong symbolic meanings, representing loneliness, artificial or lifeless beauty, or a frozen sense of anxious anticipation — everything inherent in real life, hidden beneath a thin layer of superficial gloss. To intensify this effect, I deliberately avoided warm tones and introduced additional semantic layers into the compositions.”
